The first horse focused barn management application that caters to the happiness and healthiness of your horses

Equivon is a horse focused barn management application that allows users to track their horses health, delegate tasks and chat with riders to ensure they are properly caring for their horses. The idea stemmed from building a platform that catered to a horses wants and needs rather than building an application for rider purposes.

How Do You Design For An Audience You Cannot Ask Questions To?

Qualitative Research

After analyzing the data received from the six user interviews, I was able to identify four key insights that would inspire a project that catered to these specific needs.

Key Insights:

1. Horses and humans create unique & special bonds.

2 I identified horses important needs.

3. Humans are always worried about their horses’ health.

4. Humans need horses more than they need us.

With These Key Findings in Mind, What Can I Build?

Series of 20 ideas I had to design for horses.

Beginning to Build Equivon

Low-Fidelity prototype of the application that connects to the boot based on two major tasks.

Task 1

Sign up for Equivon, and add a horse & rider to the directory and set up the bluetooth with the Equivon Device.

Task 2

See the alert that Barney’s heart rate is too high, visit his profile, and add a task to help lower his heart rate. Then check in with his owner to make sure he has completed the task.

I quickly realized that the tasks I was focusing on and the interface I was building was for the humans. I needed to change the tasks to be horse centered, take out the functionalities to help the humans and emphasize the horse focused aspects of the system.

Building A High-Fidelity Prototype With Cohesive Visuals and Content

High Fidelity Wireframes for Mobile Application

Major Desktop Design Decisions:

1. Adding "task" page in addition to being able to add tasks from most pages.

2. Adding a logo to the top of the homepage screen.

What is Next?

As the owner and builder of Equivon, I will be working to research the industry further to ultimately build out this product with the help of an engineer. As a member of the Equestrian community I see great value in this product in assisting horses and easing the mind of owners.
